The society plans to publish the book next year and then submit it to the national program. Bornemann initiated the book project last fall and reported that he has received more than 40 stories to date. “We are excited about this opportunity to record the experiences of our veterans nationally as well as locally,” said Leonard “Bud” Bornemann, a World War II veteran and chairman of the Histor-ical Society’s War History Book committee. The group recently joined in partnership with the Veterans History Project, a program sponsored by the Library of Congress. The Sappington-Concord Historical Society is issuing a second call for stories to add to its book of wartime memoirs. What began as a local community group’s effort to produce a history book of the wartime experiences of local residents now has become a part of a large national project – and there’s still time for area residents to get involved.
